As the nights become chillier and the winter wind whistles down the streets, New Yorkers want nothing more than to get cozy. Thankfully, there are quite a few restaurants and bars in Brooklyn with fireplaces that are all perfect places to warm up.
While new buildings in New York City can’t have wood-burning fireplaces, these Brooklyn bars have either been grandfathered in and/or use natural gas.
What’s cozier than enjoying a warm drink at a bar with a fireplace? Certainly not sitting next to a loud, clanking radiator in your apartment. So grab a friend, or a book, and check out these snug fireplace bars in Brooklyn.
Fireplace Bars in Brooklyn
Black Mountain Wine House
415 Union St. (Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn)
On any list of bars with fireplaces in Brooklyn, Black Mountain Wine House should always be at the top. It is the epitome of cozy inside.
If it’s not too chilly, you can sit in the Adirondack chairs around a fire pit outside. Inside, however, is the main attraction: a real wood-burning fireplace. If you’re lucky enough to get a seat near the fire, you’ll feel like you’re actually in a comfy cabin.
Black Mountain Wine House, as the name suggests, has a delightful wine list. Pair a glass (or a half bottle) of wine with a cheese or charcuterie board, and for dessert, try the chocolate bread pudding.
Achilles Heel
180 West St. (Greenpoint, Brooklyn)
Tucked into a corner amongst the tall, new condos in Northern Greenpoint is a quaint and cozy tavern called Achilles Heel. In my humble opinion, it has the best combo of all Brooklyn bars: a roaring fire and a view of Manhattan.
The large wood stove greets you right as you walk in. You can sit at a bench next to it, or grab a seat near the window to peep at the Empire State Building in the distance.
Achilles Heels serves light snacks, like olives or bread with olive oil, as well as larger meals like a roasted chicken leg. The stars of the show, though, are their house cocktails. “Il Padrone” is the perfect cocktail for a winter night- made with bourbon, rye, hazelnut liqueur, and lemon, served hot.
Dynaco
1112 Bedford Ave. (Bed Stuy, Brooklyn)
If you didn’t know it was there, you might walk right past Dynaco. You’d never know from its unassuming exterior that inside is one of the best bars in Brooklyn with a fireplace.
Dynaco is dimly lit, with wood-paneled walls, stained-glass windows, and lanterns. If you walk all the way to the back, you’ll find the fireplace. It may be small, but it heats up the whole room.
They serve classic, solid cocktails and a delicious chocolate cake. All are reasonably priced, but please keep in mind that Dynaco is cash-only.
Milk and Roses
35 Box St. (Greenpoint, Brooklyn)
Milk and Roses exudes rustic elegance and charm. From the book-lined walls to the tiled ceiling, it’s a romantic spot for a date night…especially if you’re next to the large, brick fireplace.
Enjoy a glass of wine or a cup of coffee at one of the large tables next to the fireplace, or sit at the bar where you can still hear the fire crackling.
Milk and Roses gets points for ambiance alone, but the food is also good. Indulge in pasta, pizza, and other Italian deliciousness. On weekends, enjoy pancakes, avocado toast, or PB&J French toast for brunch.
Spritzenhaus33
33 Nassau Ave. (Greenpoint, Brooklyn)
While many of the bars with fireplaces in Brooklyn are quaint, but small, Spritzenhaus33 offers space to stretch out. These German-style beer hall has communal tables in a large, airy, industrial space.
They have an extensive beer list that includes both local and international brews. Order some German classics like bratwurst or a soft pretzel to go with your pint. If you order fries, make sure to try the house sauce!
Best of all, Spritzenhaus33 has a large, glass-sided fireplace in the middle of the dining area. The seats around the fire are the perfect spots to gather with friends and play a round or two of Jenga.
Union Hall
702 Union St. (Park Slope, Brooklyn)
Union Hall may not look like it from the outside, but inside looks like a wealthy old businessman’s study, just with a bar… and a couple of bocce ball lanes. It’s a large space, but that means you can claim your corner without being too crowded.
It also has a peacock-adorned fireplace and cushy, leather couches next to little reading lights. Union Hall is a great place to enjoy a hot toddy or boozy hot chocolate on a cold winter’s night.
Union Hall is also one of the most affordable Brooklyn fireplace bars. They have happy hour from 4 pm- 7 pm on weeknights, featuring beer and wine for only $8. (Which is a steal in NYC!)
Tuffet
286 Graham Ave. (Williamsburg, Brooklyn)
If there’s one thing I love more than a fireplace bar in Brooklyn, it is one that also specializes in cheese. Tuffet just happens to be one such place.
The fireplace at Tuffet is actually outside on their backyard patio. However, I still include it on this list because with the heat lamps on, you can still enjoy a nice evening outside in November.
Tuffet serves classic and seasonal cocktails, craft beers, and wines. All can be paired with their wide variety of cheesy snacks, such as cheese plates, cheese crocks, and sandwiches.
Bijan’s
81 Hoyt St. (Boerum Hill, Brooklyn)
Bijan’s is charmingly covered in plants and twinkle lights, and when you step inside, there’s a large, homey fireplace. It’s a small spot, but if you go in the middle of the day, you can likely snag a spot next to the fire.
This American restaurant with a Persian-inspired menu is a great place to swing by for a drink, or to settle in for a meal. Bijan’s serves brunch (on weekends), lunch, and dinner, with everything from lamb burgers to “breakfast pizza.”
They also have a long list of cocktails, starting with their signature cocktail, “Bijan,” made with vodka, mint, elderflower liqueur, pineapple, and cayenne.
Black Rabbit
91 Greenpoint Ave. (Greenpoint, Brooklyn)
Black Rabbit is one of the most low-key bars with fireplaces in Brooklyn, but charmingly so. It’s a neighborhood spot with a sense of community. The regulars know each other, there’s trivia every Tuesday, and this fall they’re doing a chili cook-off.
With dim lights, dark wood, and knick-knacks on the shelves, Black Rabbit feels like it’s a tavern a bit lost in time. If you don’t want to gather around the fireplace in the back, they have booths with saloon doors, which you can close for an Irish “snug” feel.
Black Rabbit makes their own house lager, which you can get with a shot of bourbon for $10 during happy hour.
Clover Club
210 Smith St. (Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn)
Clover Club is a fun place to go for a swanky date night. Or if you come for brunch, you can enjoy live jazz music. It may be a bit pricey, but the food and fancy cocktails are delicious.
The name “Clover Club” is a nod to a group of Philadelphia journalists who used to meet and drink together in the late 1800s. The interior captures that turn-of-the-century feeling, including the fireplace in the back room.
However, in the modern age, Clover Club is a woman-owned business. Co-owner and founder Julie Reiner has many mixology accolades and has been a judge on Netflix’s Drink Masters.
